ART PROJECTS

PODCAST: THE CREATIVE PROCESS

How I process the world around me & give life to my creations... When I sat down to reflect on the process I go through in creating art, I delightfully came to the realization that this process is very similar to the process I go through in the way I        L  I  V  E. Boy is it rad being a creative!

Script:

Being creative, it might possibly be the strongest power I have. Whether it is when I am in a group of people that I never knew, and sparking up something that can connect all of us to break the silence or how to go about anything really.... Now that I think of it, being creative is really about connecting. As an artist, our art is truly about connecting.  Connecting with our work, literally pouring our feelings, hopes, dreams, desires, and even our fears as Pollock splattered paint upon his canvas that was mentally and physically apart of him.

So when I begin my art, my first step in the creative process is my desire to connect.  It depends on what emotion I am trying to connect with.  Most of the time I connect with feelings of love, joy, and inspiration.  But there have been times when I connected with the most depressing of feelings. Feeling of strong mental pain that feels so unbearable and as much as I am experiencing the pain, I somehow find a way to connect to what I usually want to connect with most of the time which are feelings of love, joy and inspiration.  The creative process works nicely in that way.  I love having my own way of therapy.  It makes me feel more independent, more sure of myself as if I’m using the creative process to figure out more and more of who I truly am.

The next step is the fun part.  Once the feeling of the desire to connect is noted, I begin to do whatever the hell I want! I am not a planner. I don't really care for drawing in graphite pencil just to see what the picture would look like, and then adding my thoughts, emotions and feelings with crayons, markers or paint on top.  I prefer to be surprised.  Yes I keep in mind my intended structure, but what I’m really trying to do here is follow my heart.  The thing about following your heart, is that I am addicted to the element of surprise. For example, I am going to school as an art education major through the desires of my heart and the surprising thing is…? I loved it more than I ever thought I would.  Applying that to my art, isn’t it more fun to do art when you are surprised to see where your elements will take you? I am in control as the artist, but I am trying to be aware that my creations are living and breathing.  I am trying to let it have a life of it’s own.  I feel really content after that, knowing that I constructed and gave life to a creation.

VIDEO GAME

Refection: Never would I have imagined that I would create a video game! To be honest this project gave me some anxiety and I realized how much work is put into creating a game.  Even though it was difficult for me, it was extremely rewarding when I finally got my subjects moving and being able to play it.

ANIMATION PROJECT

This project was extremely fun to make and edit. My partner London did the drawings and I created the animations through screen shots and adjusting London's drawings and placing all the photos in order through I-movie. It took some time but I think the end result was worth it!

APP REVIEW

The app my partner London and I reviewed is called Tayasui Sketches. Tayasui sketches is a drawing app available on ios/andriod products that has a free version and a pro version that cost one time fee of $5. Tayasui Sketches does a wonderful job in giving the brushes a very realistic feel. A wonderful app for an artist to use at work, for school or for play.

Pros: The app saves your work automatically every 3 minutes â€‹ and able to pair a stylus

Cons: To edit brush opacity and size, and use layers  is only in the pro version of the app.

Reflection: I really enjoyed exploring an app made for artists as long with writing a lesson plan for students.  I did the lesson plan and my partner London drew the art from the app and I find that the two of us work great together!

PRESENTATION & QUIZ

Reflection:
For this project I thought the quiz was really fun to make. This is definitely a great tool to use for teaching because making the quiz into a game will help the students stay interested. The purpose of my powerpoint was to be simple and direct and almost boring, but how I will present the reason why I showed the powerpoint to the students, will be a source for inspiration!

 HOW TO VIDEO

Reflection: This project was super fun to me because I felt like my own food talkshow host. Maybe I should try out for Food Network?! I also really enjoyed sharing a part of me. My family opened Coffee Factory when I was four and this sandwich that I am making is something that I've been eating myself for as long as I can remember! Sharing that and making it a YouTube video was the perfect way to end the semester.
